Our first full week in 2017!
This week we are talking about the illustrator Lois Ehlert. Many of her illustrations are cut paper or mixed medium pictures. We will be trying our hand at some of those forms of art.
Some of the KDIs we are concentrating on this week are-
Conflict resolution: Children resolve social conflicts.- Cold weather means more time indoors in close quarters and more conflicts arise. We are using this opportunity to talk about using a kind voice, keeping our hands to ourselves and asking and sharing in kind ways.
Alphabetic knowledge: Children identify letter names and their sounds- As we attached letters to the "Chika, Chika Boom Boom" tree, we named each one and then reviewed them as they are taken down. Our letter is Bb for book this week.
Shapes: Children identify, name, and describe shapes.- We will be looking at shapes in illustrations and in how we can make our own pictures.
Jesus Time- Our story this week is about the boy Jesus in the temple. Jesus goes with his parents and many others to a celebration in Jerusalem at the temple. After the celebration, Jesus stays behind while his parents leave without him. When they return to Jerusalem to find him, he is in the temple, asking and answering questions of the teachers. When Mary scolds him, he reminds her that he is the Son of God and needs to be about his Father's business. We are children of God too, and we can share what he's done for us!
Books of the Week- All books written or illustrated by Lois Ehlert- "Chika, Chika, Boom, Boom", "Leaf Man", RRRRralph", "Waiting for Wings" and more!
