Blog for January 18 and 20

Wow! We are more than halfway through January! How did that happen! We are flying like superheroes!! In fact, this week I had planned to do an emergent theme, that means I choose something that students in my class seem to have a special interest in. We have been playing superheroes quite often, sometimes dressing up, often just playing with the action figures or Little People and being superheroes, so that is our theme this week.

Some of the KDIs we are emphasizing this week are-

Engagement: Children focus on activities that interest them.- Superheroes interest both the boys and the girls in our class. We had a lot of fun today playing with them!

Cooperative play: Children engage in cooperative play.- Superheroes always have a sidekick! We are playing together, building story lines and roles for ourselves and each other.

Pretend play: Children express and represent what they observe, think, imagine, and feel through pretend play.- How would you act if you were a superhero? What would your special power be? They are thinking about those ideas this week!

Jesus Time- This week we are learning about Jesus baptism and what it meant. It marked the beginning of Jesus' public ministry, when Jesus work was to share who He was and how God was making peace with the world through Him. He is the way, the truth and the life!

Books of the Week- "Superdog : The Heart of a Hero" by Caralyn and Mark Buehner and "Even Superheroes Have Bad Days" by Shelly Becker.

Kindergarten is just around the corner! Peace Lutheran School has one of the few half day kindergarten programs in the area!  Mrs. Kasten and I would like to offer the students in 4 year old preschool a "sneak peek" into kindergarten during the month of February. On Monday, Wednesday or Friday, we would have a couple of preschoolers visit kindergarten during their morning meeting time and just see what it is like.

I will be sending out an email that you can reply to whether you'd like your child to visit or not. Mrs. Kasten will be coming over during drop off time in the last week of January so you can become familiar with her.

Look for that email! We are so happy to have you and your families at Peace!!

Have a great week!
Mrs. Schneck
